JEWL 107: Sparkle and Shine: Introduction to Gem Setting introduces learners to the exciting world of gemstones, and how to incorporate them into jewelry. Learn how to set cabochons, alternative materials and round, facetted stones in a variety of basic settings. Emphasis is placed on small studio appropriate techniques. Where appropriate, scientific and historical context of processes and materials will be discussed.

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of a variety of basic gem setting techniques in non-ferrous metals, utilizing a variety of alternative materials and gemstones; and
- complete a number of samples and projects featuring basic gem setting techniques suitable for the fabrication of jewelry.
