NURS 130: Consolidated Practice Experience I is designed to move participants forward with the health focus of year one towards the focus of health challenges in year two. Workshop topics focus on the foundations of providing care and interacting with clients who have dementia and clients who are palliative. In the residential care practice setting, students will consolidate their skills by providing personal care to residents, and further develop their relational practice, health assessment and health promotion skills.
Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of Winter Semester First Year Nursing courses. Current CPR Certificate (Level HCP).

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- develop relationships with individuals and families while focusing on their health experiences and health promotion;
- demonstrate consolidation of concepts studied in Health and Healing, Nursing Practice, Professional Practice, Relational Practice, and Health Sciences courses taken in Semester 1 and 2;
- examine and identify the role of the professional nurse as a member of the health care team in a residential care setting including their role; working in working in collaboration with other professions and care and providers;
- demonstrate progression in all domains of practice: Health and Healing, Teaching and Learning, Decision Making for Nursing Practice, Professional Responsibility, and Collaborative Leadership.
- demonstrate critical thinking, skillful decision making and self-evaluation through the consolidation of nursing knowledge; and
- perform comprehensive assessments with clients within a residential care setting.
Additional Assessment Notes: To receive credit for Nursing 130, students must demonstrate successful progress in all Domains of the Practice Appraisal Form (PAF) and satisfactory completion of all nursing practice assignments.
