PTEC 128 Interpersonal Communications in Pharmacy II explores more advanced communication skills required for obtaining comprehensive personal health information, conducting medication histories, and engaging in health teaching. The pharmacy technician's role in health promotion activities and public health initiatives are examined. Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- examine the components of an effective interview for obtaining personal and health information required for patient profile, medication records and patient care plans.
- identify communication strategies used to gather pertinent patient information for review by pharmacist and other health care professionals with emphasis on patient consent concepts.
- recognize the determinants of health that act as facilitators and barriers to health and well- being.
- explore effective teaching strategies for individuals, families and communities.
- examine current health promotion and population health models and the associated role of pharmacy technicians.
- discuss the competencies of intra and inter-professional practice: role clarification, team functioning, communication, conflict resolution, leadership and client centered care.
- identify the critical thinking skills needed for interactions with patients based on their health care needs and for referral to pharmacist.
